Gagal Ginjal Ternyata Tak Harus Cuci Darah atau Menjalani Operasi

Cuci darah seumur hidup atau operasi. Dokter menyodorkan 2 pilihan itu kepada Hariyati. Ia mengalami gagal ginjal. Hariyati sembuh bukan dengan salah satu di antara 2 jalan itu.

Hariyati syok mendengar vonis gagal ginjal. Ternyata itulah jawaban atas segala penderitaan selama bertahun-tahun. Ia kerap merasa pinggang sebelah kiri pegal dan panas. Ketika berkemih, air urine berwarna merah keruh seperi air bekas cucian daging. Selain itu perempuan 30 tahun itu juga kerap terserang demam.

Puncaknya terjadi pada pertengahan Desember 2008, ia muntah terus-menerus selama 3 pekan. ‘Saat itu mencium bau tak sedap perut saya langsung muntah,’ kata ibu 2 anak itu. Kondisi Hariyati saat itu mengenaskan: muka pucat dan letih. Hasilnya sungguh mencengangkan: kadar ureum 420,15 mg/dl, kadar kreatinin 22,93 mg/dl, dan kadar asam urat 12 mg/dl. Kadar normal untuk ketiga indikator fungsi ginjal itu berturut-turut adalah 10-50 mg/dl, 0,6-1,1 mg/dl, dan 2,3-6,1 mg/dl.

Hasil laboratorium itu menunjukkan bahwa buah pinggang Hariyati tak mampu melakukan fungsinya alias gagal ginjal. Dampaknya zat-zat yang seharusnya dikeluarkan melalui ginjal, menumpuk dalam darah. Menurut dr Luluk Zulfa Agustina di Pati, nefron dalam ginjal berfungsi menyaring dan mengeluarkan racun dari tubuh. Fungsi nefron lain adalah menyerap kembali zat-zat yang diperlukan tubuh.

Kadar ureum dan kreatinin yang melonjak melebihi ambang normal menurut alumnus Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Islam Sultan Agung, Semarang, itu akibat terjadinya penurunan fungsi ginjal. Ginjal gagal menyaring dan membuang zat-zat itu melalui urine sehingga menumpuk dan meningkat dalam darah. ‘Peningkatan kreatinin lebih dari normal, maka fungsi ginjal menurun sampai 30%,’ tutur Luluk.

Turun cepat

Untuk mengatasi gagal ginjal itu dokter menawarkan 2 opsi, yakni menjalani operasi atau hemodialisis alias cuci darah. Hariyati dilematis. Pada 13 Maret 2009-persis sebulan mengkonsumsi teripang dan spirulina-ia mengecek kesehatan ke sebuah klinik di Pati. Hasilnya kadar ureum turun menjadi 36 mg/dl dan kreatinin 1,25 mg/dl.

Pemeriksaan terakhir pada 6 April 2009, kadar ureum 21,1 mg/dl, kadar kreatinin 1,27, dan asam urat 4 mg/dl. Artinya ginjal Hariyati kembali berfungsi alias sembuh gagal ginjal. Untuk menjaga kesehatan, ia tetap mengkonsumsi 1 sendok makan ekstrak teripang per hari.
